Our Mission
Most "best accounting software" articles in this space are written by the vendors themselves — QuickBooks ranks QuickBooks first, FreshBooks ranks FreshBooks first, and Xero ranks Xero first. The rest are generic publishers (FitSmallBusiness, Jotform) or thin affiliate sites that rank platforms by commission rate rather than quality.
We're different. We don't make accounting software. We review it and tell you what actually works — including the parts that don't. Our rankings are built on five openly weighted criteria using verified vendor data (pricing pages, product documentation, integration directories) and third-party review data from G2, Capterra, and Trustpilot. We report QuickBooks' full Trustpilot record (3.7/5 from 16,894 reviews on Trustpilot (quickbooks.intuit.com profile; Trustpilot titles this profile "Intuit QuickBooks UK"; the separate quickbooks.com profile shows 1.1/5 from 1,552 reviews; checked 2026-10-14)) alongside its 4/5 G2 score because both data points matter.
How We Make Money
LedgerLab does not charge readers or run display ads; the intended funding model is affiliate commissions, but today the site earns none. Eight of the 19 platforms we review have affiliate programs (FreshBooks, QuickBooks, Xero, Zoho Books, Sage, Wave, Zeni, and AutoEntry); as of 14 October 2026 our buttons for those vendors lead to the vendors’ own pages and none is commission-tracked. If that changes, our affiliate disclosure will say so, with the date.
Critically: affiliate commissions never influence our rankings. Platforms without affiliate programs (Docyt, Pilot, Vic.ai, Kashoo, FreeAgent) are reviewed with equal thoroughness. We include non-affiliatable platforms and platforms that have exited or changed hands (Bench, Botkeeper) to prove editorial independence.

Who Runs LedgerLab
LedgerLab is an independent editorial operation with a single named editor (see the author page and Imprint). We deliberately avoid anonymous contributor claims: every review is attributable, and the methodology behind every score is published in full.
Every review is verified against primary sources (vendor pricing pages, G2, Capterra, Trustpilot, and official product documentation) before publication, and re-verified on a rolling cycle: pricing and tier details against official sources, review-platform scores refreshed, and feature lists updated against current documentation. We disclose our scoring methodology transparently.
Conflict of interest policy: we have no commercial relationships with the software vendors we review beyond the disclosed affiliate programs, and affiliate status never enters the scoring rubric. Corrections can be sent to [email protected] and are addressed within 48 hours of confirmation.
Editorial Standards
- Every platform is scored on the same five openly weighted criteria from verified public data
- We cite negative third-party data alongside positive data, with review counts and the date we checked them
- No platform can pay to improve its ranking
- We document platform closures and ownership changes (Bench collapse, Botkeeper's company wind-down and Xendoo acquisition) to protect readers from outdated recommendations
- Every review and comparison shows the date its data was last checked, and prices are re-verified against vendor pricing pages
- Factual errors are corrected within 48 hours of being reported
